requirements.  John Deere G series has an external switch kit that must be installed for the shift function to operate.  This is because it is nearly impossible to use the shift function because they machines are equipped with sticks that are missing some controls.  You will need to upgrade your sticks to have all of the functions operate properly.  If you only require 4 functions but two are not working it is because those two functions are missing on your sticks.
