Why Not Just Buy a Cheap Camera on Amazon?

We started out selling inexpensive Chinese-made systems back in 2002 — and quickly ran into their failure points. Once we traced the main manufacturers, they all led back to Shenzhen. I flew out and met with several manufacturers to design a system from the ground up. The company we chose builds only on- and off-road cameras, so they already understood the shock and sealing demands this kind of equipment faces.

We tested several ways to protect the buttons before landing on the silicone approach we still use today — it's held up reliably for nearly a decade. From there, we tackled camera heating to keep the lens clear in winter conditions, then moved on to the mounting system: all metal, no plastic, with 125-lb. magnets so a camera can absorb a hit and shift out of the way instead of breaking.

We didn't cut corners anywhere — from the sealed cabling to the cameras themselves — and it shows in how long these systems last.
